Saturday's gone and Sunday's come.

Went to Queensway shopping centre to buy a new pair of shoes. I was going to buy a pair that fits my feet perfectly, but I think I actually managed to buy bigger one than the one I had before o_O.. Also bought a pair of sandals to replace the old one.

Watched English Premier League just now, between Manchester United and Wigan Athletics. Glad that the second half was far more exciting than the first, with Man U back to winning form by crushing Wigan 4 - 0. Probably gonna watch more matches tomorrow, since holiday's started and I can stay up a bit later than normal.

During dinner, my parents said that one of my cousins in Indonesia is having a difficult time trying to find some money for her tertiary education. She is currently in final year of her Singapore's Junior College equivalent. In Indonesia, studying in a university costs around 50 million rupiah for the first term ( 1 SGD = 6000 IDR), and around 30 million for each of the remaining 3 years. This is excluding money for living costs, study trips, and study materials. So in total, she would need around 200 million for her 4 years of tertiary education. That is equivalent to around 35 thousand Singapore dollars.

For some of us, we have that amount of money saved by our parents for our education, and we would not really make such a big deal because we expect our parents to have saved that amount of money for our university. However, looking from the perspective from my cousin, she is going through a lot of pain because her parents can't afford that amount of money. Moreover, she wants to be a Doctor, so that would cost more money than a normal undergraduate in other faculties. Her parents earns around two to three million rupiahs a month, which is equivalent to around 500 Singapore dollars a month, which is in no way enough to pay for her school fee.

Hearing this from my parents makes me feel very lucky that I have been blessed with the luxury of having parents that can afford to pay for my school fee and my expenses. Comparing myself with my cousin, I feel darn guilty that I am not doing the best that I should be doing. My cousins has a great ambition of becoming a Doctor, yet she is faced with the reality that she might not be able to fulfill her dreams because of financial reasons, but looking at myself as someone who has the financial support from my parents to pursue my studies, it would almost look like a crime against humanity that I am wasting so much time that other people are dying to have. Well, I hope I could get my acts together and start doing something worthwhile in my life, so as to not disappoint my parents, and hopefully, become someone that can help others both socially and financially.
